Your GPS-less vehicle companion

My Vehicle Assistant keeps your vehicle compliant and your maintenance on track — without ever tracking where you go. Four simple steps are all it takes.

1

Plug in the OBD adapter

The MVA OBD dongle is a small Bluetooth plug-and-play device that fits into the OBD-II port found under the dashboard of any post-1996 petrol, diesel, EV or PHEV vehicle. No tools, no wiring — just plug it in and it's ready. The dongle is optimised for the MVA app and features automatic sleep and wake cycles with BatterySaver low-power mode, so it won't drain your vehicle's battery.

Compatible with all OBD-II protocols and fully supported on iOS and Android. Backed by a 1-year warranty and a vehicle incompatibility refund.

Get Connected — the app reads your car

We use your vehicle's existing data systems by connecting a simple plug-and-play OBD adapter that talks to our app. Once paired, My Vehicle Assistant reads real-time odometer readings, engine data, and diagnostics directly from your vehicle's ECU over Bluetooth.

Your mileage is tracked automatically — no manual entry needed. The app monitors every journey in the background and keeps your compliance data up to date, all without using GPS.

We don't collect and share any data that tracks your location or could be used to estimate your whereabouts.

3

Unlike the big corporates — we handle your compliance

My Vehicle Assistant aims to bring worry-free vehicle monitoring and compliance through a connected car experience at an everyday driver's price. The app continuously monitors your WOF expiry, registration renewal, service due dates, and tyre rotation intervals — alerting you in-app, via push notification, and by email before anything lapses.

No more surprise WOF failures, missed rego renewals, or vehicles running on expired RUC. Your garage lives in one place, always current.

4

RUC Assist auto-purchases — just relax

RUC Assist is an optional feature available to eligible paid subscribers. Once you grant authorisation, My Vehicle Assistant monitors your distance against your current Road User Charges (RUC) licence and purchases new licences from the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) on your behalf — automatically, before you run out.

RUC licence fees are initially paid by MVA to NZTA, and you are then charged the equivalent amount plus a small service fee to your saved payment method. You stay legal on the road with zero admin.

You can deactivate RUC Assist for any vehicle at any time, and ultimate responsibility for holding a valid RUC licence remains with you as the vehicle operator.

Your privacy, by design

We do not collect or store your GPS location. Location permission may be requested by your operating system as a technical requirement for Bluetooth Low Energy scanning — it is used solely to enable adapter discovery and does not result in any location data being recorded, processed, or retained by us.
